The Hurt Locker

  1. Prominent stars of this movie are Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Ralph Fiennes and Guy Pierce. This action film is set in Iraq in times when the US army tries to control the violence there.
The movie begins with an explosion, in which a soldier dies. So arrives a new sergeant, called James. In his first mission he does not exactly do want the others want, and so some soldiers do have problems with his character at the beginning. In the following days, they have a lot of missions and they have to kill a lot of people. James meets a little boy called Beckham, talks with him, and also plays football with him. After a few days they have a mission to deal with a human bomb and James thinks it is Beckham, which is not true. In this film there is a lot of action and there is a mission at night, in which one soldier receives a shot wound in his leg and has to leave Iraq. James also goes back home to his wife and his child, but this life is not his real passion…
The filmmakers use a very great score, it always fits very well to the different scenes. Also the costume and set design are very realistic, so the viewer always thinks they were in the middle of the war.
In my opinion, this film is of a high quality, because there is not even a second, which is boring and I would really recommend this film to others, because of the many action scenes. The age restriction of 15 is also very suitable, because there is a lot of crime and war in it.

  2. I have to agree with the author in the point of the plot, but I think it would be important to mention, the team is a bomb squad. He is right in the point that the director did a great job with cameras and stuff like that. The only bad thing about this film is, in my opinion, that the historical point of the Iraq war is shown in a not neutral way. The Director wants to make the people believe that Iraq guys are the bad one. It is a well done film, but it is very mainstream, you can find films with a smilar background story everywhere and a lot of them. (5/10 points)

  3. ″The most exciting action film in years″ this is how the film ″The Hurt Locker″ is described by The Times. The film is about a bomb squad in Iraq. The story is told very good with great action scenes and explosions. The point the second person mentioned in his review that the film isn't showed in a neutral way is right. The film is made from the side of the US-Troops in Iraq and in their eyes the Iraqi are the bad one. They kill the comrades of the US- soldiers for no reason but maybe they should think about the reasons the Iraqi have. In my opinion I would rate this film 10 out of 10 points. I have watched it before but you can watch it again and again and it doesn't get boring.

  4. THE HURT LOCKER vexmovies is a tense but emotionally distant war film from director Kathryn Bigelow, and starring Jeremy Renner. It follows an Army bomb disposal unit around as they do their job in war-torn Iraq. Unlike most war films it doesn't really take a stance on whether or not we should even be there, instead focusing on the psychology of warfare and what it does to the human mind. I thought that this approach mostly worked, although it kept the audience at a certain distance emotionally from the characters. The main character is played by Jeremy Renner, and he is the sergeant in charge of the unit. He is brash, reckless and one could almost say he has a death wish. What is closer to the truth is that he just loves what he does, and the thrill he gets from doing it. Also in his unit are another sergeant and a specialist played by Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty, respectively. They serve as counterpoint to Renner's character, and as a rational check against his unbridled nature. While most of the film deals with their bomb-defusing exploits, there are some moments when the true ugliness of the Iraq War shows its face, such as a tense nighttime scene in which Renner's character stalks someone he thinks is responsible for the death of a young street vendor he met. He yidio movies ends up in the wrong place and just leaves before the situation escalates. It is in moments like that where the film hints at a possibly deeper reading of the film in terms of whether we should have even been in Iraq in the first place. That being said, the film is well-acted by everyone involved and the handheld cinematography worked in its favor, putting the viewer into the heat of the situations that arose. I guess my biggest gripe would be that it never explicitly challenges American presence in Iraq, but it's not necessarily a film's job to do that for you. With what it portrayed, and who the main character was, it still allows you to draw your own conclusions. For one, it must take a special someone to be a bomb disposal expert. And also, not everyone is cut out for combat. Overall, THE HURT LOCKER is a solid piece of filmmaking and an interesting look into modern warfare.
