The film “The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Croft” is a western and is set in America in the 1880s. Brad Pitt plays the nation’s most notorious criminal, hunted by the law in 10 states. Most of the men, how where in Jesse Jame’s Gang are dead or in prison. Also, Jesse has just attached a train with the help of local bandits. One of them is the 19-year-old Robert Ford, called Bob, who admires Jesse. He wants to get in Jesse’s gang, and when Jesse lets Bob stay with him at his home in Kansas City, Bob thinks Jesse has taken a shine to him. But he should only help him to move his furniture to a new home. After that he is sent home to his sister’s farm, where his brother Charley, Dick Liddil, and Jesse’s cousin Wood Hite are hiding. After some days, when Bob meets Jesse, he feels that Jesse only makes fun of him, and that he is not as noble-minded as he thought. A few days later, Dick and Wood have a fight. Wood wants to shoot Dick in the head, but Bob saved Dick’s life and kills Wood. They takes Wood in the forest and doesn’t tell Jesse because he would be very angry about that. But Bob tells the Sheriff of Kansas City for a reward where some of the men of Jesse’s gang are and the Sheriff puts them in to prison. For a even bigger reward, Bob will help the Sheriff to catch Jesse. Jesse feels that he has been cheated and takes Bob and his brother Charley to his house, where he lives with his wife and his two children. But the two brothers are very scared because they think that Jesse will kill them, so Bob shoots Jesse while he is dusting a picture. The two Brothers get famous with a theatre show about how Bob killed Jesse James. Bob plays himself and Charley plays Jesse James. But American people are very angry about Bob killing their “Robin Hood” and the people start showing this. So Charley commits suicide in May 1884 and Bob is killed on June 8, 1892 by a man while he is working as a saloon keeper. The music in the film is used very well and makes the film more emotional and sad. Also the actors where chosen very well. Each character has an actor which fits her role. I give the film 8 points. It was very interesting to watch, but some times I don’t get the plot because it’s a film with many characters who are involved in the story.
Elle, at first I have to mention that you did a great job. I have never seen a movie which has had a confusing story like the movie "The Assassination of Jesse James". You have sum up the story quiet well, you understood everything although if there are many people who all look the same.
In my opinion your summery was a bit to exact, you talked about many details. But in the end these details helped me to understand the whole movie. I felt happy that I have read your summery before!
As I see it, the music is chosen well, like you said. I think it's great to have music played by big orchestras like in the movies Pirates of the Caribbean or Star Wars. The movie The Assassination of Jesse James was the opposite: Quiet music, sometimes no music at all. You could feel the emotions because of the music.
I wouldn’t award the film 8 points. The story was to complicated and the story is told very slow and very detailed. I would give him 5 points.
I have to say that Elle did a great job with her summery. I think the plot of the movie was sometimes a little bit difficult to understand but these summery helped me to understand the whole movie. The movie wasn’t bad at all but in my opinion some scenes were too brutal and violent. If you aren’t interested in these kinds of movie it is better to watch another film. It was nice to watch this movie but I wouldn’t do this a secound time.Nevertheless I would give the movie 6 of 10 points.
