The film “No Country For Old Men“ is the film version of the same named book written by Cormac McCarthy. The film was made by Ethan and oel Coen in 2007, with Tommy Lee Jones Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin un the leading roles. The movie shows the cruel chase of three men after a failed drug deal in Texas. In the beginning Sheriff Ed Tom Bell talks in a monologue about how cruel the crime was and that he can‘t understand the violence of today: Then you see how contract killer Anton Chigurh strangles a policeman to escpe his imprisonment. In the hunt, Vietnam War veteran Llewelyn finds the place of a failed drug deal and leaves with two millions US-Dollars. When he comes back to this place to bring water to a wounded person he is shot by Mexicans who has already discovered the place. But Llewelyn can escape and he brings his wife to safety. In the progress of the film, Llewelyn Moss is chased by the Mexicans, Anton Chigurh, who works for the Americans, and by the local sheriff, Bell. In a shootout between Moss and Chigurh both get wounded. Moss hides the money at the Texan-mexican border lane and goes to a Mexican hospital to have his wounds taken care. In the hospital, Moss is ahad to do a deal with Carson Wells, who was instructed to bring the money back by the organized crime, but Moss rejects the deal. Chigurh takes Wells by surprise ans kills him. He presents Moss, who called Wells before, the decision to give him the money or to assassinate Mosse‘s wife. But Moss decides to keep the money and meet his wife. When his wife comes to the meeting point, the police is already there because Llewelyn was shot by the Mexicans and some evidences infer that Chigurh was also there. After a while, Chigurh meets Mosse‘s wife and says that he promised Llewelyn to kill her but he wants to let a coin toss decide if he kills her. She replys that it isn‘t the coins decision, rather the decisoin of himself. When he leaves the house, he looks for blood on his shoes as allusion that he killed her. During the whole film , the use of music in the background is very rare, it is only shown at some scenes during night to keep the hardness and cruelty of Chigurh who kills people without batting an eye. But in some scenes the music can build up more tension. The actors in the film play their roles very well, particulary Javier Bardem as unscrupulous contract killer who kills one who stands between him and his aim. Also, Tommy Lee Jones as Sheriff, who cares about the people in his town and often remembers the “good old times“, persuades in his role very well with the other actors. All in all the actors are the perfect choose, because they fit perfect in their roles.
In my opinion, No Country For Old Man is an very good film in his genre. In some scenes it is extremly thrilling. You see the cruelty of the 80s in Texas and how the crime, represented through Chigurh, gouverns the life of the people. So I can recommend this movie to everybody, who likes Thrillers.
I think I don't have to sum up the whole story of the film again because the person on top has already done this very good. I think that this is one of the best films I've ever watched. It's a very thrilling story and this is what makes it so inscrutable. The makers of this film selected a very great actor with Tommy Lee Jones. Also Javier Bardem fits perfect in his role as psychopathic killer. The film shows the problems of the Texan-mexican boarder very good. Drugs and the organized crime lead the live of people which live there. The police can't really fight against it because the criminals are faster then they are. This problem is showed very well in the film. All in all this is a great film. I would rate it 10 out of 10 points and I would also recommend it to everybody who likes thillers.
I agree, that the music in the background is very less, but I think it create a very strong feeling, when music is used. The actors are doing their jobs very good. The film is made very well, and I like it very much, that the camera operator is not as fast as it is in other films (in which you often do not see anything), so you can follow the whole action. If you like this genre of movies, you HAVE to watch it, because everything is coherent.
