This is a Critic about the film "Big Fish" It is a drama-comedy. It is set in the USA of 2002 and sometimes in the timebefore that. The film is mainly about the conflict between Edward Bloom and his son, whose name is also Edward. In the film, Edward tells many stories of his fantastic and unbelievable life. Because of the incredible stories, his son doesn't believe them anymore when he is grown up and so father and son start to argue against each other. The whole film Edward Bloom is very ill and close to death, but he still tells us about his fantastic life. When he was a child, he grew up too fast and so he had to stay in bed for three years. One day he goes to a witch in the forest to find out about how he would die from her magic glass ball. Because of this knowledge, he becomes really brave and becomes the hero of the little town ASTHON. One day a giant was in the town and Edward had to talk to him, because the people who life in the town are scared of the giant because he had eat many sheeps. Edward make the giant ready for the city and they goes on to find a better place for him. After a short while, Edward finds a more interesting place, than his boring street, and so the two friends seperate. Edward comes into a town, whose named is SPECTRE, where all the people live in harmony together. They all want him to stay there, especially Jenny, a eight-year-old little girl. But Edward decides to move on. On the street he meets the giant once again and they decide to walk on together. After a while they come to a circus and the giant decides to work there. And after seeing the love of his life there, Edward decides to work in the circus, too, because the circus director knows a lot about the girl. And every month he tells him more about her. At the time when seems to know everything about her he starts to look for her and he finds his girl after a short while, but she is already engaged to somebody else. So he does everything to prove his love to her and so she decides to take him instead of his other fiance.But shortly after their marriage he has to go to the Korean War. Everybody thinks that Edward is dead, his wife Sandra too, because he is lost, but after the war he comes back and works as a salesman in the streets in different cities. While working as saler he comes back to the town of SPECTRE. But the once so beautiful little town is now run-down. So he decides to help his friends there with his money. He buys the town and the people can live there again. He also meets Jenny, the little girl there, one more time. Now she is a beautiful woman and still in love with him. But he isn't in love with her, and after he tells her, she is very sad and lives alone for the rest of her life. Edward tells more and more unbelievable stories and so you should watch the film to see them all and to get to know how the film ends. It is a great movie for the whole family. I like the film very much because it is a story wich seems to be really realistic but with the stories of Edward Blooms life, you feel like you are in your special own world.
I agree with your summary, you listed all the important things up.
It´s a very good movie, with good actors and a nice story and you can watch it with your family, because for younger children the stories are very interesting and the older ones or adults see the movie’s message.
But you have to watch the film very concentrated, because it switches a lot between the past and the present, so you can’t watch it while doing other things, like some other movies or daily soaps.
At last I want to say, that I would watch the film another time, too.
First I’d like to say that I agree with the second comment, Jenni you did a great job in explaining the plot. When someone reads it, he or she can really follow the story quite well.
Especially if you like other movies of Tim Burton you will like this one too. Maybe it is even better for whole families than other Tim Burton movies because they are often very gloomy and unrealistic; this one is closer to reality but, as Jenni said, with his fantastic stories you are whisked away into another world.
It’s true, you have to pay close attention to understand everything but I think it’s totally worth it!
